In Mexico, where more than 76% of the population is overweight or obese, the fashion industry seems to ignore women with 'curvy' bodies, as clothing stores typically offer sizes that do not go beyond 40 or 42. This neglect has led many women to face issues of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. According to data from the organization 'Obesidades', nine out of ten people in the country have been mocked for their weight at least once in their lives, while eight out of ten have been discriminated against for this reason.
The lack of appropriate clothing options has caused 'curvy' women not to feel comfortable and confident when attending social events or parties, as most available garments tend to be unattractive and without an elegant design. In extreme situations, some of these women resort to products and medications that promise quick results, such as semaglutide, risking their health by lacking proper supervision from a professional.
To address this issue, Yunuen Arellano decided to open a boutique in Mexico City that offers stylish clothing for women with robust bodies, providing sizes ranging from 34 to 44 Mexican. With her store 'You Clothing', she aims for 'curvy' women to feel confident, elegant, and self-assured so they can enjoy any social event without worries.
Regarding the health risks of obesity, it is noted that this condition can trigger various diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancer, among others, and reduce the quality of life of individuals. Abdominal obesity, in particular, represents a serious health risk, and it is important to implement effective strategies to address this condition. According to data from the National Survey on Health and Nutrition (ENSANUT), 36.9% of adults in Mexico live with obesity, and it is estimated that by 2030, 45% of the population will have this condition, representing a significant challenge for the health system and the well-being of millions of individuals.
